Grateful:

  • The running trail around Town Lake. It makes every run feel like a gorgeous, scenic trip.
  • Bright, adorable bungalow homes
  • Music everywhere, every night of the week. Classical Spanish guitar, folk, punk rock…it’s all good.
  • Free parking and no traffic.
  • Trees everywhere!
  • Adorable dogs allowed to go almost everywhere. Watching them play in the lake is one of the best things about my run.
  • Fancy tacos — panko encrusted tilapia tacos are my new favorite thing.
  • Days that only get into the low 90’s. It’s amazing how different that feels than when it’s in the low 100’s. The ten degrees makes a huuuuuuge difference.
  • $3.50 gin and tonics at downtown rooftop bars. WHAT.
  • Good, friendly people who ask me out to dinner/to the roller derby/to brunch, etc. This city is so insanely friendly. I’ve never felt so welcomed anywhere. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Austinites, for taking in another out of towner and showing her some real southern hospitality.

I was just in Austin three weeks ago! I had a blast. That trail around Town Lake was awesome – I got in a few good runs with a friend of mine while visiting. We also kayaked on Town Lake and I definitely remember seeing that huge house on the hill from your first picture! Brings back some good memories!
